On Marshawn Lynch's two signature runs he has had a similar celebration: Jump into the end zone while turning and grabbing your crotch. Probably didn't take much time to choreograph.
The NFL wasn't impressed. The Seattle Seahawks back was fined $11,050 for what the league deemed unsportsmanlike conduct for the inappropriate gesture at the end of his 79-yard run against Arizona, which is one of the NFL's top plays of the year. Pro Football Talk broke the news of the fine. That play drew comparison's to his famous "Beastquake" run against he Saints in the playoffs at the end of the 2010 season, and Lynch ended that run in similar style.
Lynch is used to being fined, having been docked $100,000 by the NFL earlier this season for not cooperating with the media. This fine for the touchdown celebration seems a bit steep. According to the Associated Press, six Giants got fined a total of $72,400 for their actions during a Rams game that included a huge brawl, an average of a little more than $12,000 per player. Grabbing your privates while you score a touchdown is apparently on about the same level as kicking and punching during a fight, in the NFL's eyes.
Lynch probably isn't too happy with the fine, though it's doubtful he's ever going to speak publicly about it. Lynch's teammates didn't mind his celebration, as safety Earl Thomas expressed in a colorful quote that's about as entertaining as Lynch's run itself.
"He is who he is," Thomas said, according to the Sporting News. "He's going to hold his (groin). That's what he do."
