1922 - Bicyclist Piet Moeskops becomes world sprint champ.
1931 - Red Sox Earl Webb sets record with 65 en route to 67 doubles for the season.
1937 - First NFL game in Washington D.C.; Redskins beat New York Giants 13-3.
1941 - Cardinals Stan Musial makes his major league debut, going 2-for-4.
1947 - Jackie Robinson is named Rookie of the Year by the Sporting News.
1953 - Ernie Banks becomes the Chicago Cubs first black player.
1961 - Minnesota Vikings compete in their first NFL game, defeating the Chicago Bears 37-13.
1968 - Gaylord Perry, Giants, no-hits the St. Louis Cardinals 1-0.
1979 - Kansas City Royals George Brett is the 6th player in major league history to have 20 doubles/triples/HRs in a season.
