MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reports that the Tigers and Dodgers have had discussions about a potential Ian Kinsler trade. As Morosi notes, Kinsler has a partial no-trade clause.
Kinsler, 34, has one year and $16 million remaining on his contract. He’ll earn $11 million in 2017. In 2018, his controlling team has a $10 million club option with a $5 million buyout clause. The veteran had an outstanding 2016 campaign, batting .288/.348/.484 with 28 home runs, 83 RBI, 117 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases in 679 plate appearances.
The Dodgers need a second baseman after losing Chase Utley to free agency and trading Howie Kendrick to the Phillies. Morosi adds that the Tigers are interested in Dodgers 1B/OF prospect Cody Bellinger, rated as the organization’s best prospect by MLB Pipeline.
