Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that free agent closer Kenley Jansen is the Marlins’ top target this offseason. Since the market for starting pitching is weak, the club is considering investing resources into the bullpen.
Jansen, 29, finished this past season with 47 saves, a 1.83 ERA, and a 104/11 K/BB ratio in 68 2/3 innings.
The Marlins had a decent back end of the bullpen with closer A.J. Ramos saving 40 games with a 2.81 ERA while David Phelps, Kyle Barraclough, and Dustin McGowan posted sub-3.00 ERA’s in front of him. Jansen, however, would be a significant upgrade.
