The league informed the team Friday that Williams will be eligible to return to the Bills active roster on Oct. 3, the day after the Bills play at New England. He will be allowed to participate in training camp and preseason games. The suspension will begin the Monday of Week 1 of the regular season.
Williams had a solid first season after the Bills made him a fifth-round draft pick in 2015 out of Florida State. He tied for the team lead in touchdowns with nine.
The news comes a day after Bills running back Jonathan Williams was arrested in Arkansas on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. He was a fifth-round pick this year for the Bills after sitting out his senior season at Arkansas with a torn foot ligament.
