Manager Joe Maddon promised Sunday breakfast for the Cubs on their off day during a recent press conference, and he delivered with a buffet setup that included a hog's head, along with a viewing party of the Chicago Bears' NFL game on the Wrigley Field giant TV. What better way to make a workout more palatable the day before Game 3 of the NLDS, which resumes Monday.
Check out coach Dave Martinez juxtaposed to the Sunday swine:

After the Cubs won Game 2 at St. Louis to even the best-of-five division series, Maddon promised "breakfast at Wrigley tomorrow." Now, it's Joe Maddon, so he could have been talking metaphorically, or in a complex riddle. Or that maybe he meant the players would have to wear jammies and drink mimosas (not Sammy Mimosa). But no, he just meant there would be breakfast at Wrigley, set up in part to help the Cubs get ready for Jake Arrieta starting Game 3 against the Redbirds.
Try to keep breakfast down, Cubs. Here's a view from above:
And I said, 'What about breakfast at Wrigley's? She said I think I remember the Bears are on. Yes, I said, I recall, we both kind of like them, and I said, well, that's one thing we don't want to watch.
Here's what Maddon said Saturday after being asked how he assesses the series:
Tomorrow will be breakfast at Wrigley, by the way. I just want to make sure that you guys understand that. It's breakfast at Wrigley. We will have that tomorrow prior to -- I don't even know if the press is invited. Are they invited to breakfast at Wrigley? They can observe from a distance.
Anyway, getting Jake pitching the next game is kind of a good thought for us, obviously. He's been pitching -- how can I even say? You've all been watching; he's been spectacular. So go home tonight, have a day off tomorrow. We're going to have some breakfast at Wrigley, enjoy our optional batting practice, watch some NFL football on the big screen and then get ready for the next game.
Of course they wouldn't let the media eat the players food. Not even Maddon could make that happen. The media was free to watch the Bears on the jumbotron, though!
