Chinese swimmer tests positive at Rio Games

Female Chinese swimmer Chen Xinyi may not have won any medals at the Rio Games, but the 18-year-old has made headlines anyway, having earned the dubious distinction of being the first competitor to test positive for a banned substance at the Rio Games.
Chen tested positive for diuretic hydrochlorothiazide after coming in fourth in the women’s 100-meter butterfly, nine-hundredths of a second behind a spot on the podium.
The case is currently being considered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and the Chinese Swimming Association says it will respect the final decision of the court.
A gold medalist at the 2014 Asian Games, Chen was also scheduled to compete in the 50-meter freestyle beginning on Friday.
Doping has cast a long shadow over swimming in the Rio Games. Seven Russian swimmers were controversially allowed to compete in the Olympics, despite having initially been banned.
