After waiting more than two decades for the return of the NFL, Los Angeles fans weren’t going to waste any more time before buying season tickets.
The Los Angeles Rams sold out of season tickets in about six hours Monday, the Los Angeles Times reported. The Rams had taken $100 deposits, and those who deposited had the chance to buy season tickets. When the Rams contacted the people who deposited about buying — each person could buy up to eight season tickets — about 24,000 people bought all 70,000 tickets. A limited number of single-game tickets go on sale July 28.
The Rams are in a good position. They’ll be helped by the novelty of being a new team in town. Then they’ll get another boost when a brand-new stadium opens in 2019. They’ll have to win at some point to keep the stadium full, but they have a pretty good cushion before that pressure starts.
It shouldn’t be a big surprise that the Rams sold out season tickets so fast, but it’s a nice affirmation for the team and the NFL in moving back to Los Angeles. We’ll see if the Rams are selling out season tickets 10 or 15 years from now (feel free to look back at some of the crowds the 1994 Rams drew; it’s no sure thing), but it’s a nice start for Los Angeles’ first team in 22 years.
