If you’re one of those finger-wagging eye-rollers who believe the athletes of today get away with way too much, we’ve got two words for you: Darryl Strawberry.
What Strawberry, Doc Gooden and other players were able to do back in the ’80s isn’t even in the same stratosphere as the silly things that raise controversy flags nowadays.
Want proof? Strawberry admitted Thursday morning on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Radio that he used to have sex, during games, in the clubhouse between innings. Remember last season Noah Syndergaard got in trouble for eating lunch during a spring-training game? Yeah, not exactly the same thing.
Anyway, here’s what Strawberry told host Sirius XM’s Evan Cohen:
“Between innings. It worked out well just how crazy it was,” Strawberry added. “It kind of worked out that way. You point (a woman) out and tell the kid (to go get her).”
By “the kid,” Strawberry means a clubhouse attendant. In his Sirius XM interview, Strawberry also talked about drinking in the clubhouse and smoking cigarettes in the dugout. Oh, to be a baseball player in the ’80s.
Get ready for more stories like this, particularly about Strawberry and Gooden. ESPN’s 30-for-30 on them, titled “Doc and Darryl,” premieres Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET.
