1938 - Fred "Hammer" Williamson, Gary Indiana, NFLer (Chiefs)/actor (Julia) is born.
1946 - Rocky Bleier, Wisc, NFL running back (Pittsburgh Steelers) is born.
1964 - Atlanta Mayor Ivan Allen Jr, announces a baseball team is moving there.
1965 - Pepper Martin, American baseball player (b. 1904) dies.
1966 - Bob Seagren pole vaults 5.19m indoor world record.
1976 - Paul Konerko, Chicago White Sox all-star baseball player is born.
1982 - Gaylord Perry (with 297 wins) signs with Seattle Mariners.
1985 - NY Islander Mike Bossy is first to score 50 goals in 8 straight seasons.
1993 - Marlins beat Astros 12-8 in their first spring training game.
1995 - Gregg Hansford, Australian motorcycle and touring car racer (b. 1952) dies 
while competing in a Supertouring race in 1995 at Phillip Island, Hansford's 
Ford Mondeo slid off the track and hit a tyre wall at high speed. The car bounced 
back onto the track where he was hit by Mark Adderton's Peugeot 405 
at over 200 km/h. Hansford died moments after the impact.
