Colts finally cut ties with D’Qwell Jackson

In a move that should have been made three years ago, the Indianapolis Colts released linebacker D’Qwell Jackson this afternoon. The first move by new general manager Chris Ballard.

This is a move that needed to be done two years ago, but is still a major relief.

Jackson was signed as a free agent in 2014, and was supposed to solidify the middle of the Colts defense. One “free pass” of a Pro Bowl invite later and the 33 year old veteran has over-stayed his welcome.

The former Brown was signed by Ryan Grigson and was considered a “high prized” free agent signing. What he truly was–was a washed up middle linebacker that was suspect at best in pass coverage.

Jackson lead the league over the last two seasons in missed tackles. His release now puts the Colts over $58 million in cap space.

In reality we could see an entire new starting linebacker core in Indy next season. Something fans should be okay with.
