Miami announced Saturday it has left seven players at home from this week’s bowl game due to academic ineligibility.
Six of the seven players are true freshman, four are on track for redshirts and none figure to tilt the balance of the game one way or the other.
They are: wide receiver O’Juan Carney, a fellow freshman that did not dent the stat sheet; tight end Michael Irvin II, a true freshman that appeared in five games but did not record a statistic; tight end Jovani Haskins, another freshman that did not see the field; defensive back Jeff James, Jr., a true freshman that appeared only in the Hurricanes’ opener against Florida A&M; defensive lineman Tyreic Martin, who did not see action; defensive lineman Gerald Willis, a redshirt sophomore who collected 19 tackles, 5.5 TFLs and 1.5 sacks; and defensive back Cedrick Wright, a true freshman that posted six tackles in nine games.
Miami will meet No. 16 West Virginia in the Russell Athletic Bowl on Wednesday night (5:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).
