Michael Jordan's UNC sneakers sell for over $33K at auction

Have you ever taken your old basketball sneakers down to the Goodwill shop and then returned months later to see them unpurchased despite their $3.50 listing? No? Just me? Ok. Well, Michael Jordan doesn't know this feeling either. On Thursday, a game-used pair of Converse sneakers that Jordan wore while starring at the University of North Carolina were sold for $33,387. Grey Flannel Auctions, who brokered the sale, has a track record of selling the five-time NBA MVP's former footwear. Last year, the auction house sold the sneakers from Jordan's legendary "Flu Game" in the 1997 Finals for over $100K and before that, a pair of the kicks he wore during his rookie season earned a price of $31,070. If you're bummed that you've missed out on all these opportunities to own some of MJ's game-used sneakers, don't fret. Grey Flannel Auctions plans to sell a pair next year that Jordan wore in the 1984 Olympics, so you can throw in a bid on those. Or you could buy a brand-new luxury car.
Another sports icon made interesting news on Thursday as well, as Vin Scully revealed he had lost his 1988 World Series ring. In order to help rectify the situation, the Dodgers took to Twitter:

As it turns out, the keepsake had simply slipped off the finger of the 87-year-old broadcaster while he was loading ribs into plastic bags at Costco. Two positive items of note here: 1. Scully got his ring back and 2. Even members of Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame see the value of buying in bulk.
Speaking of the MLB Hall, a future member had an embarrassing episode during a former teammate's golf event recently. Manny Ramirez, who had no trouble making contact during his 19 years in the majors, whiffed two straight times while trying to club a golf ball at the 7th Annual David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic. Unfortunately for Ramirez, video evidence of his struggles on the course made it to Instagram, and now we have yet another piece of footage to add to the ever-expanding "Manny being Manny" reel. It's hard to believe a guy could hit .312 while the ball is moving but .000 when it's sitting still.
