AP source: Hall agrees to 4-yr deal with Redskins

A year after taking a major pay cut to help the Washington Redskins through their salary cap woes, DeAngelo Hall has a new deal with a nice raise.

The three-time Pro Bowl cornerback agreed to terms for a four-year contract with the Redskins on Tuesday, according to a person familiar with the negotiations.

The person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the deal, said the contract will be worth between $4 million and $5 million per year.

That's a reversal from 2013, when the Redskins cut Hall because they couldn't afford him, then re-signed him on the cheap. The team was dealing with the second half of a league-imposed $36 million salary cap penalty, so they ditched the final two years of his burdensome, six-year, $54 million contract and got him back on a one-year deal worth less than $2 million.

With the cap penalty behind them, the Redskins have plenty of money to spend, but they have a lot of players to sign. Hall was one of seven Redskins defensive starters set to become free agents next month. At the top of the list is outside linebacker Brian Orakpo, while middle linebacker London Fletcher has said he plans to retire.

Hall, 30, had a team-high four interceptions last season, including two returned for touchdowns. He has 43 career interceptions over 10 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, Oakland Raiders and Redskins. He has played 5 1/2 seasons in Washington.

The Redskins were 3-13 last season and ranked next-to-last in points allowed per game, but much of the slide could be credited to team-wide dysfunction in the latter days of coach Mike Shanahan's tenure. Shanahan was fired at the end of the season and replaced by Jay Gruden, who decided to retain defensive coordinator Jim Haslett.
