1936 - John Madden, NFL coach (Oakland Raiders)/sports commentator (CBS, FOX) is born.
1938 - Don Meredith, Mount Vernon Texas, QB (Cowboys)/Monday Night Football is born.
1947 - Jackie Robinson becomes 1st black in major league baseball (Dodgers).
1961 - New Washington Senators loses first regular-season game 4-3 to White Sox.
1962 - First baseball game at LA's Dodger Stadium, they lose 6-3 to Reds.
1962 - First major league game in Houston, Colt .45s beat Chicago Cubs, 11-2.
1962 - NY Yankee Mickey Mantle hits his 375th HR.
1971 - First baseball game at Philadelphia's Veterans Stadium, Phils beat Expos 4-1.
