Kidd-Gilchrist re-injured the shoulder Feb. 10 in a win over the Indiana Pacers after aggressively rehabbing from October shoulder surgery to return much sooner than expected.
The Hornets' best defensive wing presence, Kidd-Gilchrist played just seven games this season, averaging 12.7 points and 6.4 rebounds.
Kidd-Gilchrist, 22, signed a four-year, $52 million contract extension in September.
Kidd-Gilchrist, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft, is viewed as a cornerstone player for the Hornets, but was limited to 62 games in 2013-14 and 55 games in 2014-15.
