With the injury to pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu likely ending his season (and the earlier season-ending injury to Brandon McCarthy), the Dodgers are likely in the market for another starting pitcher, and they might just use their surplus of infielders to grab one.
ESPN’s Buster Olney is reporting that the team could make a major splash, going after one of the National League’s best pitchers, who apparently wants big money (that his team likely can’t afford).
The LA Times’ Bill Shaikin also has floated the White Sox’ Jeff Samardzija and the Nationals’ Doug Fister or Jordan Zimmerman as possible replacements for Ryu and McCarthy.
The Dodgers are likely to include one of their many corner infielders in any deal — like Alex Guerrero — especially following the official signing of highly touted Hector Olivera.
