Joe Dumars is expected to resign as general manager of the Detroit Pistons.
Dumars, who played for the franchise in a backcourt with Isiah Thomas, became president of basketball operations in 2000 and has been part of the Pistons for 29 years.
Praised for his early work as a roster architect after the team lost centerpiece Grant Hill in Dumars' first offseason in the front office, recent moves have not panned out.
Prior to the 2013-14 season, the Pistons signed forward Josh Smith and point guard Brandon Jennings to pair with talented young pivots, Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe. The result was a 28-49 record entering Tuesday.
Dumars and his hand-selected coaches have been unable to produced positive postseason results for six seasons.
Ownership spared Dumars likely based on two factors -- his longevity with the Pistons and the risk-taking paid off in 2004, when Detroit won the NBA championship and lost in the Finals the next season.
