1911 - Brooklyn Dodgers president Charles Ebbets announces purchase of 
grounds to build a new concrete-and-steel stadium to seat 30,000.
1918 - Dodgers trade Casey Stengel & George Cutshaw 
to Pittsburgh for Burleigh Grimes & Al Mamaux.
1927 - Gino Marchetti, NFL defensive end (Dallas Texans, Baltimore Colts) is born.
1945 - Kentucky begins 130 home basketball game win streak, ends in 1955.
1965 - NY Jets sign quarterback Joe Namath.
1966 - Green Bay Packers beat Cleveland Browns 23-12 in NFL Championship game.
