Denver Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan allowed Leon Lett to finally get a good night of sleep. Meanwhile, DeSean Jackson knows he will not be the only one in the bone-headed blooper reel.
Trevathan intercepted Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco early in the fourth quarter and seemingly returned it for a touchdown. However, Trevathan decided to celebrate a little too early and dropped the ball at the 1-yard line when he thought it would be a good time to showboat.
Unfortunately, for Trevathan, the ball went out of the back of the end zone, and the interception became a touchback. Baltimore regained possession because of Trevathan’s play.

“Man, it was just a little mistake,” Trevathan told the Denver Post after the game. “I think it was kind of selfish. That’s the type of player I am. I’ll take full responsibility, and I’ll grow from it.”
In addition, Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard was hurt on the same play while trying to recover the ball Trevathan dropped when he was undercut by a Ravens player. Woodyard started in 14 of 15 games for Denver last season and the Broncos can't afford to miss him, especially considering Denver is already without linebacker Von Miller (suspension) and cornerback Champ Bailey (foot).
“In the end, I knew it was all on me, dropping the ball,” Trevathan told reporters. “I really did not mean to do that. I was just so caught up in the moment.”
If there is a lesson to be learned here, it is you can never go wrong with waiting until you are through the end zone before your celebration. And if there are any worries about an excessive celebration penalty, then just give the referee the football and walk away. Losing a touchdown is bad enough, but having your actions result in an injury to a teammate is even worse.
Jackson and Lett would agree.
