Interesting development: The Giants have granted the 49ers permission to interview Tom Coughlin, source tells .

Coughlin, who last week resigned as coach of the New York Giants after 12 seasons and two Super Bowl titles, has also interviewed with the Giants' NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Since Coughlin resigned with one year remaining on his contract and was not fired, New York still holds his rights and teams wishing to interview him must request permission first.
San Francisco fired Jim Tomsula after one year, a 5-11 record and the lowest-scoring offense in the NFL. The Niners benched Colin Kaepernick midway through the season, just a couple of years after leading the franchise to an NFC championship, and finished the season with Jacksonville castoff Blaine Gabbert.
The 49ers have also interviewed Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson for their opening.
