1931 - Willie Shoemaker, jockey (won 8,833 of 40,350 starts) is born.
1935 - Bobby Richardson, SC, 2nd baseman (NY Yankees) is born.
1945 - Phillies Jimmie Foxx, 37, pitches 1st 7 innings vs Reds & wins.
