The worst thing about preseason games is having to play them. The benefit of playing against another team for a month can quickly be overshadowed by a key injury.
And if that injury happens in an extra preseason game it's really tough to swallow. But that's what the Pittsburgh Steelers face after losing kicker Shaun Suisham for the season with a torn ACL in the Hall of Fame game on Sunday night, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Suisham hurt his knee covering a kickoff to start the second half.
Suisham is the most accurate field-goal kicker in Steelers history, and he'll be hard to replace. Billy Cundiff, Shayne Graham and Jay Feely are three candidates the Post-Gazette identified that the Steelers might look at to replace Suisham, but there's a reason they're all available. It's not the easiest thing to find a reliable kicker, especially one who can succeed at Heinz Field, a tough place for kickers. Now the Steelers have to find one among the free agents who couldn't latch on with a team before camp.
Suisham is the first important injury of the 2015 preseason. Other teams, all with four preseason games to go, hope they can avoid adding to the list.
