1913 - Harry Green runs world record marathon (2:38:16.2).
1925 - Yogi Berra [Lawrence Peter Berra], American baseball catcher,
coach and manager (NY Yankees, Mets), born in St. Louis Missouri is born.
1956 - Brooklyn Dodger Carl Erskine's 2nd no-hitter, beats NY Giants, 3-0.
1957 - Lou Whitaker, Brooklyn, New York, American MLB 2nd baseman
(Detroit Tigers, 1978 AL Rookie of the Year) is born.
1966 - St Louis' Busch Stadium opens, Braves lose to Cards 4-3 in 12 inns.
1979 - Chris Evert's 125-match winning streak on clay comes to an end.
1995 - Martin Brodeur ties NHL record getting his 3rd playoff shutout in 4.
2000 - Adam Petty, American race car driver (b. 1980) is killed instantly in a
practice session for the Busch series Busch 200 race at the New Hampshire
Motor Speedway, Petty's throttle stuck wide open at turn three, causing
the car to hit the outside wall virtually head on.
