With the Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers tied at 96-96 in the final seconds of Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at the United Center, Rose fired and banked in a long three-pointer at the buzzer to carry his team to a 99-96 victory and 2-1 advantage in the very tight series.
Rose's winner followed a dramatic game-tying three seconds earlier from Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith, who returned to action after serving a two-game suspension incurred in Cleveland's first-round series against the Boston Celtics. Rose finished the night with 30 points (10-of-26 FG), seven rebounds, and seven assists.
The Bulls point guard missed the majority of the second half of the regular season after undergoing surgery to remove part of the meniscus in his right knee, his third notable knee surgery in as many years. Prior to this postseason, Rose had not appeared in the playoffs since tearing the ACL in his left knee in Game 1 of the first round in 2012.
