The collective roar you just heard emanating from the Midwest most certainly came from the north side of Chicago.
Chicago Cubs fever hit an all-time high this offseason, and now it's time for the team to live up to its lofty expectations. If that's going to happen, the youngsters and top prospects with the club are going to have to prove they have what it takes to make it in the majors.
Those skills were on full display Tuesday, as Jorge Soler, Javier Baez and Kris Bryant hit back-to-back-to-back homers against Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer.
Cubs fans, feel free to take a minute to catch your breath before clicking on that video again.
Both Soler and Baez got a taste of the majors last season, and are expected to open 2015 with the major-league club. Soler impressed in his brief stint, while Baez showed plenty of power, but had issues making contact.
Bryant's situation is a bit more muddled. He's rated as one of the top prospects in the game by nearly every outlet, and hit a ridiculous .325/.438/.661 over two minor-league levels in 2014. There are some evaluators who believe he can handle the majors right now, but the Cubs may opt to start him in the minors due to service time concerns.
Either way, Bryant is close. And that means this same scenario could actually happen in a game that matters soon. It's been a long wait, Cubs' fans, but this young core is worth dreaming on.
