Clemson has reportedly sent home wide receiver Deon Cain, tight end Jay Jay McCullough and kicker Ammon Lakip from the Orange Bowl for failing drug tests.
Cain, a freshman, has 34 catches for 582 yards and five touchdowns. He's the team's second-leading receiver in terms of yardage. He was a five-star recruit and the No. 4 wide receiver in the class of 2015 according to Rivals.
McCullough saw playing time in 2015 but didn't have a catch. Lakip, who handles kickoffs for Clemson, was projected to be the team's starting kicker. However, he lost the job after he was suspended to start the season after he was arrested in June for DUI and cocaine possession. Greg Huegel inherited the kicking job and has kept it since.
Cain's importance in the passing game vs. Oklahoma on Thursday could have been heightened if WR Artavis Scott, the team's leading receiver, was feeling any ill effects from the meniscus surgery he had after the ACC title game.
Oregon's Darren Carrington was suspended for the national championship game last year for failing a drug test.
