Wright announced after Saturday's New Mexico Bowl that he was heading to the NFL draft. A junior, Wright could have returned for his senior season in 2016.
But after a 2015 plagued with injuries, we don't blame him at all for turning pro. Wright suffered a meniscus injury in the Wildcats' first game of the season and came back for the Wildcats' game against UCLA. He then suffered a foot sprain but was able to return for the New Mexico Bowl. He was a dominant force on Saturday, hitting New Mexico quarterback Austin Apodaca as Apodaca threw the game-sealing interception for a Wildcats win.
Wright had 15 tackles and two sacks against New Mexico. He entered the game with eight tackles in the entire season.
In 2014, Wright won the Nagurski Award. He had eye-popping statistics of 163 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 14 sacks and six forced fumbles as a sophomore. He's expected to be a high pick in the 2016 NFL draft, though there's a chance some teams could be scared off by a potentially slow 40 time. Do we have to remind you that linebackers rarely run 40 yards in a straight line during a football game?
Wright was a two-star recruit in the class of 2013 and was not ranked in the state of California. He's taken note of his recruiting ranking too. His Twitter handle is @TwoStarScoob.
