Scoreboard watching happens all the time in baseball. Players will admit to taking a peek at the score during games, and teams celebrate in the locker room when their rival loses a big game.
With that in mind, it shouldn't come as a surprise that scoreboard watching extends far beyond the players. The New York Mets may not have had a game Thursday, but they were certainly watching to see whether the Washington Nationals would beat the Miami Marlins and gain ground in the National League East.
The team tried to be discreet about its rooting interest, quietly favoriting positive tweets sent out by the Marlins' official account. While the Marlins may have appreciated the support, the two teams are still division rivals. Because of that, a member of the Marlins social media team decided to expose the Mets for their antics.

That's actually kind of funny. We have to give some credit to the Marlins for calling them out on it, too. If you're going to scoreboard watch and root against another team, you might as well do it publicly.
We can't imagine the Mets are too upset this got out. With the Marlins 6-4 win over the Nationals, New York now holds an eight game lead in the division with just 16 games left to play. It seems strange to say this, but the Mets have earned the right to be a little cocky right now.
