Mere moments after the Fox announcers noted that Cutler was off to a strong start, completing his first eight pass attempts of the game against the Arizona Cardinals, Cutler rewarded them with a classic moment — a pick-six to give the Cardinals a 28-14 lead in the second quarter.
Adding injury to insult, the Chicago Bears quarterback headed to the locker room immediately afterward with a hamstring injury. Cutler came down awkwardly after trying to make a tackle on the Tony Jefferson pick, and Cutler was ruled out for the rest of the game.
This was not the first time Cutler got hurt after an interception. He was injured in a 2011 game against the San Diego Chargers trying to make a tackle on an Antoine Cason pick that year, suffering a broken right thumb in the process.
The Bears will travel to face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.
The Cutler injury against the Cardinals set up the reunion everyone was waiting for: Jimmy Clausen playing for a John Fox-coached team, just as they did when they were together with the Carolina Panthers. Clausen went 1-9 as a starter in his rookie season in Fox's final year with the Panthers.
Clausen completed only three of his first eight passing attempts for eight yards, with a pick.
