Star Wars and college teams pair up for bizarre apparel deal

Star Wars and the NCAA have joined forces (pun not intended) to introduce a co-licensed apparel deal that no one was asking for but hey, that never stops anyone from trying these things. We're sure a lot of fans will geek out over the sci-fi crossover, but some of these shirts are just bizarre. Yoda leaping with a lightsaber on the front of a shirt that says "Aggie of Texas A&M, I am" just feels a bit forced, right? Similarly, we suppose there is some connection one can pull between a Storm Trooper and UCLA or USC and Darth Vader, but we're having trouble figuring it out. Wouldn't Darth Vader and Iowa make more sense? We must be missing something here. Thankfully, the Star Wars team offers a clear explanation:
Whether a member of an undefeated empire or part of a rebel alliance, collegiate sports fans know what it means to be part of a legacy. Now college sports fans can celebrate their school pride with the power of the Force sporting a new collection of apparel and accessories featuring iconic designs from the Star Wars saga! Everything you need for an intergalactic sports showdown: T-shirts, caps, throws, outerwear, lunchboxes, coolers, and more featuring each college’s unique graphics and favorite Star Wars characters like Yoda, Darth Vader, stormtroopers, and more. Gear up the friends and family for the next home game or make the jump to lightspeed with your own Star Wars tailgate at a campus not too far, far away…
OK, so maybe that didn't clear much up. It seems to suggest that games will soon be played on the Death Star, and while we'd be first in line for those tickets, that's about the only collaboration between the two entities that would actually excite us. That, or perhaps Vader succeeding Nick Saban at Alabama. Which we would fully endorse, despite our concerns that Vader would come across as soft and too touchy-feely after Saban's act.If Jedi knights were recruiting on this planet, Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim might have a case. The 23-year-old put up the second-best high jump ever last week in Belgium with a mark of 2.43 meters. To put that in perspective, Adam Schmenk of USA Track and Field whipped out a couple photoshops to show just how great the leap was, and those images spread across the web like wildfire.
Another man that can put on a show is Baltimore Ravens star Terrell Suggs. Suggs debuted his new entrance to home games on Thursday by sporting a Gladiator mask, and the unique look will go a long way toward following-up Ray Lewis's long-celebrated entrance dance.
