USC left tackle Chuma Edoga was ejected within the first two minutes of his team’s game vs. Utah State on Saturday after he got physical with an official.
Edoga went down to the ground while blocking and a bit of extra-curricular activity ensued after the play. As officials separated the players in the pile, Edoga was unhappy. And didn’t want the umpire touching him.
The umpire immediately flagged Edoga for the contact and the sophomore was tossed from the game for making contact with an official.
The infraction could draw a suspension as well if Pac-12 officials deem that it was intentional. Our first guess is that Edoga didn’t realize who was pulling him off the pile, but the umpire is subsequently right in front of him. Was Edoga so overcome with emotion that he didn’t realize it was an official staring him in the face? No matter what, it’s still way too early in the game to be that chippy.
Edoga started at left tackle for USC in the team’s season-opening loss to Alabama in place of Chad Wheeler, the team’s projected starter. Wheeler has been dealing with plantar fasciitis.
