The Mets right-hander had surgery July 18 to alleviate thoracic outlet syndrome and has not yet been cleared to throw. He attended a community event Monday and attempted to sound optimistic, but there was some frustration in his words.
"I'm doing well, coming along," Harvey said, via the New York Daily News. "Rehab's a little slow but it's coming along. I'm doing whatever the doctors say and it's a little bit slower than I thought but I'm doing everything I can to get back on the field."
The 27-year-old said being sidelined is "mentally tough" and he's awaiting doctors' approval to ramp up his rehab.
The Mets hope to have Harvey ready in time for opening day 2017, but there is no clear timetable for his return.
Harvey went 4-10 with a 4.86 ERA in 17 starts this season.
