Could the 2016 season be lucky No. 13 for Larry FItzgerald?
The nine-time Pro Bowler is telling those close to him that this season could be his last in the NFL, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The Arizona Cardinals are one of the favorites to make it to the Super Bowl LI, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if that is playing a role in Fitzgerald’s thinking. The Cardinals made it to the NFC Championship game last year, losing to the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte; the team advanced to the Super Bowl in the 2008 season, but lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Should Arizona win, Fitzgerald would be able to go out on top, as Peyton Manning did last season and Michael Strahan did after Super Bowl XLII.
UPDATE: Larry Fitzgerald Sr. has responded to Rapoport’s report, saying his son hasn’t told him that he’s thinking of retirement:

The third overall pick out of Pittsburgh in 2004, Larry Fitzgerald Jr. turned 33 years old on Aug. 31. He begins this season with 1,018 career receptions, which is 11th most all-time.
