With that in mind, legendary broadcaster Vin Scully had the unenviable task of breaking the news of Muhammad Ali's death to many of his viewers during the eighth inning of Friday's Dodgers game.
Scully did so with the level of respect and class we've come to expect. Even when the news is troubling, fans can always count on him to lift their spirits through his soothing and always heartfelt words.
Scully and Ali had something in common too: They're both gifted talkers and storytellers.
Different styles and different agendas, of course. Scully loves to sell the beauty of baseball, while Ali was in the business of selling himself so that people would pay money to see him win or lose. Both have long been regarded as the greatest in their fields, so it's only fitting that Scully paid a final tribute to Ali by reciting perhaps his most famous quote.
