New England Patriots quarterback has to be pretty satisfied with his career choice. Shortly after he decides to hang up his cleats, the Pro Football Hall of Fame should come calling. If he could do it all again, there's no doubt he would make the same decisions.
With that said, it's always fun to dream on what could have been. Five years before Brady was selected by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft, another team was smart enough to realize his potential.
That's right, 21 years ago the Montreal Expos drafted Tom Brady in the 18th round of the 1995 MLB draft. Brady didn't sign with the organization at the time, a decision he clearly doesn't regret. Still, he decided to share a baseball card depicting what could have been on his Facebook page.
Given his incredible work ethic, and the success he has experienced on the football field, it's fun to think about whether Brady could have made it in baseball. Brady was drafted as a catcher, and we know he has a tremendous arm and is one of the best leaders around. It certainly seems like those traits would serve him well on a baseball field.
Brady wasn't the only football player selected that year. Quarterback Chad Hutchison was taken in the 1st round by the Atlanta Braves, but did not sign. Ricky Williams, Daunte Culpepper and Brady's future teammate Lawyer Milloy were also taken in the 1995 draft.
In an alternate universe where Brady chose baseball, he would currently be hitting behind Bryce Harper in the Washington Nationals lineup. Under his leadership, Jonathan Papelbon never choked Harper, and the Nationals are well on their way to winning their third straight World Series championship. Matt Williams is set to win his third straight Manager of the Year award.
While even Tom Brady wouldn't have been able to save Matt Williams, we imagine everything else about his baseball career would be pretty great. As far as we know, the only way to "deflate" a baseball is by hitting it really hard. In this case, that's a good thing.
