Ohio State coach Urban Meyer responded Tuesday to the comments five-star offensive tackle Landon Young made about Meyer and the Ohio State coaching staff.
Young, a Kentucky signee in the class of 2016, told SEC Country that he felt the Ohio State staff treated him like a piece of meat while at a camp and through the recruiting process. He also said that Meyer told him OSU didn't offer Young earlier because the school felt he was "an insubstantial player" at one point.
You can read Young's answer in its entirety here. Here's what Meyer had to say Tuesday via BuckeyeGrove.com:
"I did read that, we had a lot of respect for him as a player," Meyer said on Tuesday. "I was very disappointed in our staff that we did not offer him earlier. Then about the treating him bad, we don't do that on purpose. If that is his feelings, I went back and talked to our staff about it because we don't want that to be out there. But when you have one out of 650 that say someone is treated bad…"
The situation could have been different if the Buckeyes offered Young earlier but nobody will ever know. Meyer still feels that the Buckeyes made a mistake not getting involved earlier.
"I know that we did not offer him early, we did want to offer (him)," Meyer said. "Afterwards he really grew into a great player and we really missed on him early on. And I was very upset with our coaching staff, our recruiter in that area and then the position coach. That is the way that we do our business there. We do address that, I don't want that out there."
Young, a native of Lexington, Kentucky, was the No. 3 offensive tackle and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Kentucky according to Rivals.
