Astros shortstop Carlos Correa wins AL Rookie of the Year award

The future is bright in Houston and perhaps no where is brighter than at the shortstop position, where the Astros have star-in-the-making Carlos Correa.
There's one more reason to be thrilled now, as Correa was named the American League Rookie of the Year on Monday.
Correa had a strong challenger in Francisco Lindor, the Cleveland Indians' stellar shortstop. But Correa earned 17 of the first place votes, while Lindor finished with 13. Miguel Sano, the Minnesota Twins' slugger, finished third.

The honor put another crown on Correa's exciting debut season in the big leagues. There were the individual achievements, of course — the 22 home runs that led AL rookies and the impressive .279/.345/.512 slash line that was made all the more impressive by the fact that Correa was only 20 years old for most of the season.
But the team success still might be more exciting. The Astros were a surprise postseason team, rebuilding faster than expected and making it all the way to the American League Division Series.
Correa, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2012, wasn't just a rookie in the latter part of the lineup either. He was, in many ways, the team's leader. He hit in the middle of the order, played one of the toughest positions on the field and, in doing so, showed poise beyond his years.
Yes, the future is bright in Houston. And it's going to stay that way in the years ahead, with Correa at shortstop and as the face of the franchise.
