Cornerback Brandon Flowers has agreed to remain with the San Diego Chargers on a four-year deal that averages about $9 million per season, a league source told Yahoo Sports.
Flowers, 29, was seen as one of the bright young stars at his position prior to having a down year with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013, but after getting cut by the Chiefs, he re-established himself last season in San Diego on a one-year deal.
He had three interceptions and broke up 10 passes in a season that saw him hold slot receivers to seven catches for 115 yards, according to Pro Football Focus. San Diego's pass defense ranked fourth best in the league last year, holding opponents to 214.2 yards passing per game.
On Thursday, Flowers told the NFL Network that although free agency was on the horizon with likely suitors, he "would love to stay in San Diego."
